In this sense, there is an increasing demand for almond plantations, especially in the irrigated and rainfed system with the intensive planting framework. This system is mainly characterized by a higher density of plants per hectare, compared to the traditional system, which allows a higher yield and greater efficiency in harvesting.

How much does an intensive almond plantation cost?
The cost of an almond plantation with an intensive planting framework can vary depending on various factors, such as geographical location, climate, soil characteristics, planting framework, variety, rootstocks, royalty, among others.
Intensive almond planting frameworks
Compared to traditional planting frameworks, the intensive almond production system is characterized by a reduced distance between plants. Generally, the most used planting frames for this type of cultivation are 6x3m, 6x4m, 7x4m or even 7x5m which means that between 285 and 556 almond trees can be planted in one hectare. It is important to note that this form of planting, despite having a higher initial cost than a traditional planting framework, will be more profitable due to the increase in production per hectare. In addition, it also facilitates the mechanization of processes and the management of irrigation and fertilization.
Intensive almond yield
The cultivation of the almond tree has experienced an increase in its profitability due to the increase in the consumption of almonds, the introduction of new cultivation systems and the varietal improvement of the almond trees. However, the profitability of the crop depends on factors such as variety, climate, soil type and mainly on the amount of water available. With the planting frameworks described above, average productions of more than 2,000 kg of pip per hectare can be obtained from the fourth year of planting. These yields may vary depending on weather conditions, soil type and variety of almond planted. It is important to note that to obtain these yields, it is necessary to have a good irrigation and adequate fertilization system.
